Nashville’s popular 12 South neighborhood has seen much change recently between restaurants closing and new ones coming in. For its first location out-of-state, NYC-based Mexican restaurant Fonda will become the latest tenant of 2316 12th Ave S. in the space last home to Josephine. Fonda was established in 2009 by chef Roberto Santibañez and has two locations in Manhattan and one in Brooklyn.
The incoming destination aims for a May opening and will serve brunch, lunch, and dinner. A more precise grand opening date is forthcoming.
Specializing in an approachable take on authentic yet elevated Mexican cuisine, Fonda offers classics like chicken enchiladas and carnitas tacos as well as more unique dishes like blue crab croquettes and braised duck tacos. Its brunch menu encompasses chilaquiles, Belgian-style waffles, huevos rancheros, tortas, and omelettes. With a designated vegetarian and vegan menu and plenty of gluten-free corn tortillas, Fonda truly accommodates everyone.
“Santibañez blends care and authenticity with the creative urban flourishes that distinguish the food of his native Mexico City,” its website states. Each tortilla at Fonda is hand-pressed, their guacamole is made to order, and the margaritas are thoughtfully crafted.
An interview with comments from Santibañez is forthcoming. Stay tuned for more information on Fonda’s website, Instagram and Facebook pages.
