In a recent Instagram post, the team behind the popular Mexican food truck Alebrije announced the closure of their residency at Honeytree Meadery in East Nashville, where they were parked seven days a week for over two years. However, fans shouldn’t be too saddened by this news, as the owners have shared their plans for expanding with additional sites as well as focusing on their operations at the SoBro gastropub, Bar Sovereign.

It’s now been revealed that the food truck fixture will debut two new installations: at Never Never bar in Wedgewood Houston as noted on Instagram, and a poolside location at the upcoming Drift Hotel, as reported by The Tennessean. Though the team has not formally announced an opening date, Drift Hotel is slated to open early this year. Teasers on Alebrije’s Instagram show that their Never Never spot may be coming first, with a post from three days ago showing the location. Exact opening dates are forthcoming.

Alebrije is owned by Edgar Victoria, who began early iterations of Alebrije in 2020 at various farmer’s markets and at local mainstays like Bastion, Arnold’s Country Kitchen, and Joyland, the Nashville Scene reports.

Victoria took his experience from growing up in Mexico as inspiration to bring to Nashville, educating locals on true, authentic Mexican street food using ancient Mexican techniques, local and seasonal ingredients, and imported corn from a small family of farmers in the central valleys of Oaxaca, Mexico, as its website states. Alebrije’s menu offers a variety of tacos, including pastor, carnitas, and asada, as well as homemade mole, elote, and a traditional dish called Tlayuda that resembles a Mexican-style pizza.

Customers can keep an eye out for additional announcements on Alebrije’s website, Instagram, and Facebook pages. What Now Nashville did not immediately receive a response from Alebrije officials for a request for comment.
