A former Music City staple known as “Nashville’s Best Kept Secret” will soon be revitalized by a family legacy. Cal’s Country Kitchen, once flourishing in Madison under owner Carolyn Buggs, will reopen under the guidance of Carolyn’s son and restaurateur Marcus Buggs in North Nashville at 1315 Dickerson Pike.

In partnership with a new co-owner, Clint Gray of Slim & Husky’s Pizza Beeria, another successful local business, the duo is setting up well for a successful reopening.

According to recent reporting by The Tennessean, the projected opening timeline is late spring or early, with an exact reopening date forthcoming. The concept was revered for its classic Southern soul food, welcoming guests for over 24 years before Carolyn retired.

The menu at the new iteration of Cal’s Country Kitchen is slated to offer a full bar and the same country cooking that customers know and love, with standouts including turnip greens, banana pudding, and chicken and dressing.

In a video posted to Cal’s Country Kitchen’s Instagram, Carolyn explained the decision and her outlook for the future.

“I feel confident that it will be in good hands. I’m going to work with him to help him get it there and I’m going to hold his feet to the fire to keep it there,” Carolyn said in the video. The post has garnered almost 5,000 likes.

Cal’s Country Kitchen does not yet appear to have an official website created, but in the meantime, customers can keep updated with the reopening on Facebook and Instagram.
