A new concept called SS Gai was announced today from the minds at You Are Here Hospitality to open this summer to The Wash, the former car wash turned micro food hall. The restaurant is joining East Side Pho, Two Peruvian Chefs, Soy Cubano, Bay 6 Bar, and the just-announced Sweeza at 1101 McKennie Ave.

Husband-and-wife owners Chris and Emma Biard are behind the new concept. An exact grand opening date is unknown, though the restaurant is aiming to open in June.

“SS Gai was built on the notion that flavorful, street food-style Thai chicken can thrive in Nashville’s bustling dining scene. Chris and Emma Biard will open SS Gai – “same-same, but different chicken” – at The Wash in East Nashville this June 2023,” states the press release announcing the concept.

The menu at SS Gai will be parred-down with chicken-focused entrees similar to what the concept has been serving at its pop-ups across Nashville, which has been in operation since 2021 and has garnered over 1,300 followers on Instagram.

“Through regular travel to Southeast Asia and extensive recipe development, Chris and Emma were inspired to bring SS Gai to Nashville upon tasting a particular style of Thai chicken during their travels. The small, focused menu is centered around traditional recipes for Gai Yang (grilled chicken) and Gai Tod (fried chicken) – each paired with sticky rice, shallots, tamarind chili fish sauce, and aromatic chili vinegar,” according to the press release.

The restaurant has yet to set up its website, but customers can keep up to date with the opening process on its Instagram, @ss_gai_nash.
