Located at 1101 McKennie Ave, the restaurant will join East Side Pho, Two Peruvian Chefs, Soy Cubano, Bay 6 Bar, and the just-announced SS Gai inside of The Wash’s micro-restaurant space. Nguyen and Newton are no strangers to the hospitality industry, as they already own and operate East Side Pho and East Side Banh Mi, two tried-and-true local favorites.

Sweeza is set to debut its grand opening sometime in June, though an exact date has not yet been determined.

The concept is sure to fit right in at East’s unique micro-food hall. The Wash describes itself as “an adaptive renovation of a previously-existing car wash, which each of the 6 wash bays now serving as a restaurant or bar incubator space. Our name and branding pays homage to history of the space that came before us,” according to The Wash’s website.

The new restaurant concept is inspired by San Francisco’s Mission District street food. The Mexican-American menu will offer super-sized quesadillas filled with cheeses, meats, salsa, crema, and avocado before being wrapped in an oversized flour tortilla and griddled golden brown. The handheld meal is a lunchtime-through-late-night staple and is accompanied by a menu of Tostadas and Ensaladas Grandes, as well as house-made Salsas and Agua Frescas year-round, states the press release announcing the concept.

Chef Chad Newton described his favorite dish on the menu with What Now Nashville.

“My favorite thing on the menu is definitely the Don Juan Especial – named after a good friend of ours we used to cook with who made the best quesadillas. It’s a Sweeza with double steak, french fries, fried jalapenos, and all of the other regular accompaniments and a side of rice and beans. I think Juan would be proud! If I had a second choice, our house-made horchata is delicious and happens to be dairy free and vegan!” Newton said in an email.
