Maru Sushi & Grill’s presence across Middle Tennessee is growing rapidly. At the beginning of this year, What Now Nashville reported on their plans to open a fourth location in Wedgewood Houston. Now, it seems that a location in Murfreesboro will steal that title, leapfrogging the WeHo restaurant to being the brand’s fifth location.

What Now Nashville connected with Maru Sushi & Grill ’s founder and owner, Mikyung Bang to learn more about the newest location.

“We have three locations in the greater Nashville area,” said Bang. “This location in Murfreesboro was supposed to be our fifth, but our plans for our WeHo location have been delayed.”

Work on the Murfreesboro location started months after plans were announced for Maru Sushi’s other project at Emblem Park in Wedgewood Houston. While the anticipated order of which new restaurant would open first has switched, the two newcomers will join Maru Sushi & Grill’s other locations in East Nashville, The Nations and Hendersonville.

Bang has secured a building permit for the construction of Maru Sushi at 3921 Franklin Road. Construction began within the last few weeks. Most recently, concrete has been poured for the new restaurant.

“I think this location will be good for us,” Bang said. “We’ve been wanting to open a location in Murfreesboro for a while, and we finally found a spot. Once we open, we hope we will be busy and have many people in to eat our food.”

Bang estimates that around 100 people will be able to fit inside and enjoy a meal of sushi rolls and bulgogi once doors open. The building permit indicates that Maru Sushi will culminate in a 2,988-square-foot space. Souvanna Construction Company is listed on the document as well.

Bang hopes to open sometime around September or October.
