According to recent social media posts, Wedgewood Houston’s Black-owned coffee shop and cafe The Loading Dock will relocate after its lease at 2028A Lindell Ave ends on April 30. Over six years, the location became an anchor for the area and saw many other local businesses open in the communal space attached to the cafe, such as Killjoy and The Wedge Pizza and Pub.

While the business has not yet signed a new lease, owner Juan Vega-Romero has announced via The Loading Dock’s social media channels his intentions to reopen as soon as possible.

In the meantime, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help support its baristas and staff members while the search for a new home continues.

“Due to some unexpected circumstances, we have to relocate. Despite the sadness we feel about this, we are hoping it will bring exciting new opportunities to grow as a community,” the GoFundMe states.

“As for our new location, we are actively looking for a new space. We’ve got some ideas in the works, but we really want to find the PERFECT spot in our neighborhood! If you know of any buildings with vacancies, let us know! We want to find a location that works for us, but most importantly, we want to find a location that excites you all,” states an Instagram post.

As a unique cafe beloved by its community, The Loading Dock specializes in handcrafted espresso beverages and teas using syrups and flavorings made in-house and serves both breakfast and lunch sandwiches. It utilized the wall space at the Lindell Ave location to sell locally made art and plants.
