Common Ground Restaurant and Bar to Replace The Yellow Porch in Berry Hill

Common Ground first opened its doors in Nashville last November, and is already on the way to expanding with its second location in under a year.

Gep and Katie Nelson, co-owners of the longstanding Berry Hill eatery The Yellow Porch, announced last month that they would be closing the restaurant that became a neighborhood staple for almost 25 years. Shortly after, local restauranteurs and co-owners of Common Ground, Matthew Ramos and Wes Taylor, stepped in to convert the space into the second location of their restaurant concept that opened in November of last year in Sylvan Park.

Located at 734 Thompson Lane, Common Ground plans to open doors in early August if everything goes according to plan with renovations, however, an exact grand opening date has not yet been decided.

Ramos gave What Now Nashville some more insight into Common Ground’s plans for the new location.

“Berry Hill is an exciting neighborhood within Nashville. We are most excited about becoming accessible to brand-new neighborhoods that may not currently be able to get to Sylvan Park very often. Our concept was created in a way for it to fit into anyone’s weekly routine and become their regular neighborhood spot. Berry Hill allows us to access about five more areas of town in order for us to appease those guests,” Ramos said.

The concept of Common Ground is rooted in its diverse, all-day offerings that appeal to just about anyone. The coffee bar is a staple for caffeine fiends, there’s a full bar for winding down during happy hour, and there are plenty of food options across its menus for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch.

“The way the menu was created was so that a guest could come three times a week and not feel like they are repeating themselves. There is something for everyone. Chef Eric Babula makes focaccia from scratch in-house daily so our focaccia plate is a unique item to us. We source Wagyu beef from Blackhawk farms so the quality of our smashburger is unmatched. And lastly, our Lox dish on brunch consists of salmon that Chef Eric is curing in-house to make our own Lox. Combine this with everything bagel spice from a local spice shop and it gives the guest a truly unique take on Bagel + Lox,” Ramos told What Now.

The menu of the Berry Hill location is expected to be an exact replica of the original Sylvan Park location, except Ramos and Taylor will be “exploring late night at the new space,” which may include additional drink offerings. The current hours of operation at its Sylvan Park location are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. The restaurant is closed on Mondays.
