Murfreesboro has been tapped as an area of interest for the convenience store chain Wawa, as reported by local news site Boro Pulse. The new Wawa development is slated to be located along Veterans Parkway and Blackman Road, near Ascension St. Thomas Hospital and the recently approved Blackman Park development.
The site will include a 5,915-square-foot convenience store and an additional 6,300 square feet for its gas canopy, located on 2.4 acres, states the Pulse article.
Wawa announced its plans to enter the Nashville market with multiple locations to roll out by 2025, though specific locations and addresses have been revealed more recently, including a location in the town of Springfield, Tennessee.
The convenience store and gas station chain serves made-to-order food options and handcrafted caffeinated beverages. Its online menu consists of breakfast sandwiches, salads, wraps, hoagies, and soups. Customers have the ability to customize their meal of choice through a modernized touchscreen ordering system, setting Wawa apart from other competitors like Buc-ees.
As a family-owned company, Wawa originally got its start in the dairy industry over 200 years ago.
“As home delivery of milk declined in the early 1960s, Grahame Wood, George’s grandson, opened the first Wawa Food Market in 1964 as an outlet for dairy products. Today, Wawa is your all-day, everyday stop for freshly prepared foods, beverages, coffee, fuel services, and surcharge-free ATMs,” states a previous press release.
Though it is too early to predict an opening timeline, the Murfreesboro Wawa will likely open in 2025 pending construction and permitting approval.
